Water

Icelandic water is delicious and safe to drink.

You don’t need to buy water while you’re here!  It does not have the faint taste of chloride that many associate with tap water, since it’s never chemically purified. It comes straight from sources where the water has filtered through lava and is clean as can be.

Hot Water.

You may find a smell that many say resemble rotten eggs but that’s the smell of the geothermal hot water (sulfur to be exact). The reason is very simple:  water coming from the tap is actually pure, unfiltered geothermal water, which is high in sulfur! Sulphur might be better-known for its distinctive egg-like stench than its skin-boosting properties, but the natural mineral has actually been used in skincare regimes for centuries and has been proven to combat an array of skin conditions, such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Public bus

All buses in Reykjavík are operated by Strætó BS, a bus company run by Reykjavík City and neighbouring municipalities. There are no other public transport networks in the city so Strætó is pretty much the only way to get around Reykjavík without a car or a bicycle..

To find out which bus you need to catch you can use the Strætó website’s handy route planner, which is also available in the app.

There are five ways to pay for the bus in Reykjavík: Cash, ticket, day-pass, bus-card, or the app.
